Cat 735 Torque Converter Assembly
This video shows most of the steps to re-assemble a torque converter from a Cat 735 6x6 haul truck. Most Cat torque converters are very similar in design. This torque came from a very low hour donor transmission that had less than 900 total hours since new, it had never been rebuilt yet. I had to use the flywheel portion from my old transmission as this one was set up for a different application. I also installed a new updated lockup clutch disc as I do with every rebuild on these as they are the weak link in this transmission.

Ya, it’s a 3 cyl 2 stroke gas engine. It has 3 coils and 3 sets of points. Runs 40:1 mix.

What in the world was the US Military using this Pile Of Shit for????
It’s the only thing that could field a .50 and fit into an osprey, so it could run shotgun for the M1163 that could fit into an Osprey with a 120mm mortar launcher. After these retired they temporarily settled on stuffing the POS SxS into the bird.

Ya, she edited it out of the video, it’s pretty easy, a large screwdriver to pry the main seal out and sharp chisel to slice the inner band carefully to not scratch the shaft, if I remember correctly. I appreciate the feedback

That name sounds familiar, but I don’t think I know them, I’ve been in the scraper and then rock truck rental business here in So Cal all my life, I grew up going to work with my dad, pushing a broom at 10 years old back in the 70’s for $2.00 an hour.

Glad I was able to help, it’s hard to believe they don’t terminate the wires into the engine bay. Especially since I paid for the up-fitter wiring that was supposed to go to the rear of the chassis

Use paracord and WD40. Much easier and faster!
The cord trick doesn’t get it all done on this type. You still need to use the tool to run the lock in all the way around. And the WD-40 can stain the CARC paint, it doesn’t have any clear coat like automotive paint.
